Costs
How much does loft insulation cost in Bristol?
Loft insulation cost depends on more than floor area. Rather than quote a headline figure that may not fit your loft, here is an honest breakdown of what drives the price, and how to get an accurate written quotation.
What affects the price
Loft area
The bigger the floor area, the more material and labour required.
Access
A cramped hatch, awkward stairs or a low roof slows work and can affect price.
Existing insulation
Whether there is anything to work over, and its condition.
Removal & cleaning
Taking out old, wet or contaminated material and clearing debris adds cost.
Material & build-up
Mineral wool or multifoil, and the depth used.
Ventilation
Any work to keep the eaves clear or improve airflow.
Boarding
Raised boarding for storage is priced separately from insulation.
Water tanks & wiring
Insulating around tanks and keeping clearances around fittings.
Moisture & contamination
Damp, mould or rodent contamination changes the scope.
Disposal
Responsible disposal of removed material.
Location & parking
Access and parking can be a practical factor on some Bristol streets.
Minimum charge
Very small jobs may be subject to a minimum charge.
Why we don’t publish a single price
Bristol’s housing is unusually varied, from large Victorian and Edwardian roofs in Clifton and Redland to 1970s–1990s houses in Horfield, Filton and Bradley Stoke that may already have some insulation. Two lofts of the same size can need very different work. We would rather give you an accurate figure for your loft than a headline price that turns out to be wrong.
Request a free assessment and you’ll receive a written quotation before any work is agreed. It lists each part of the job separately, so you can see where the money goes.
Is it worth it?
An uninsulated roof is one of the biggest routes for heat to escape from a house. Whether insulation pays off for your home depends on what is up there now and how you heat the house: see is loft insulation worth it? and how much loft insulation do I need?
Cost questions
Why don’t you publish a price list?
Because the price depends on your loft: its area, access, what is already there, the material that suits it and any removal, boarding or ventilation work. A headline figure that turns out to be wrong for your loft helps nobody. After a free assessment you receive a written quotation before any work is agreed.
Is a top-up cheaper than a new installation?
Usually. If your existing insulation is dry and in good condition, a second layer laid across the joists brings it up to 270mm without removing what is there. Damp, flattened or contaminated insulation has to come out first, which adds to the cost.
Can I get a grant for loft insulation?
Government-backed schemes change over time and depend on your household and property. Check the current schemes at gov.uk/improve-energy-efficiency before you pay for the work yourself.
